Sotdae Program
G.O.A.’L. is excited to announce the pilot launch of Sotdae (μλ), a 10-day origin search journey for an adopteeβs first time back to Korea. G.O.A.βL. views the ancient sotdae as a symbol that connects adoptees to Korea and welcomes them back, while wishing good luck.
Sotdae (μλ) were sacred posts made of wood or stone that were erected at the entrances of villages in Korea, dating back to over 2,000 years ago. The Korean people believed that such posts connected the earth and sky, granting wishes from above for abundance on Earth. Carved birds were placed at the top of the posts and were seen as the messenger between the earth and sky. Such birds can be a symbol for migration back to Korea, as adoptees return. Sotdae were also used to commemorate major life events.
Sotdae sets itself apart from other programs that welcome adoptees back to Korea by taking a more personalized approach with a focus on family search. A dynamic search itinerary will be customized based on personal records and other information to better meet the needs of the adoptee conducting their search. Sotdae is a full-service program that will take care of travel accommodations and other details so that the adoptee can solely focus on their search and experiencing Korea.
Sotdae is sponsored by Danim Group and G.O.A.’L. board member, Matthew Shampine.
