F-4 Visa Renewal

How to Renew Your F-4 Visa

You may renew your F-4 visa up to 3 months prior to the expiration date. The expiration date is located on the back of your resident card.

If you forget to renew your visa while still living in Korea, you will be fined. Fines vary based on individual circumstances, but are typically as follows:

  • 1-10 days: Approximately 100,000 KRW.
  • 11-30 days: Around 200,000 KRW.
  • Over 30 days: The fines increase by increments and can be significantly higher the longer the overstay continues.

Prepare your documents

  1. Application Form 34 (재외동포 통합신청서 (신고서))
    • Check "EXTENSION OF SOJOURN PERIOD"
  2. Foreigner Occupation and Annual Income Report (외국인 직업 및 연간 소득금액 신고서)
  3. Copy of Housing contract or rental agreement
    • If your name is NOT the signer of the housing contract, you will also need the Confirmation of Residence / Accommodation (거주/숙소제공 확인서)
  4. Passport – original + color copy (Valid for 3+ years)
    • If your passport is valid for less than 3 years, you can still renew your visa, but your visa will only be renewed for the validity of your passport.
  5. F-4 Visa Resident card
  6. 60,000 KRW in cash
    • You must pay the 60,000 KRW fee BEFORE meeting with the immigration officer. Inside the Korean Immigration Office, there is a designated area where you can buy revenue stamps.

Only if you are renewing for a second time and left Korea for 6 consecutive months or more between your first and second renewal:

  • Criminal Background Check + Apostille from your adoptive country (Less than 6 months old)
    • Exempt if over 60 years of age
